About

Avatar Path is a blog I started on a bit of a whim. I have been an avid meditator since fall 2017, and have recently been re-watching Avatar: the Last Airbender with my stepson. Nearly every episode jumps out at me with its wisdom. Perhaps it’s just my interpretive lens, but this show seems to have so much to offer when it comes to the spiritual path. So I decided to start a blog to share the moments of the show that jump out at me, mixed with my personal meditation experience.

My meditation practice is grounded in vipassanā, aka insight meditation, using the noting method of  Mahasi Sayadaw, from the Theravada Buddhist tradition. In particular, I practice the Ajaan Tong style, taught in North America by Yuttadhammo Bhikkhu at Sirimangalo International Meditation Centre. However, my practice is strongly influenced by the approach and subculture known as Pragmatic Dharma, guided by online communities such as /r/streamentry  and books such as Mastering the Core Teachings of the Buddha.

I do not intend to have any regular update schedule for this blog. When I feel like writing, I will write. Like many activities in my life, I expect this blog will involve long lulls punctuated by a flurry of creative energy.
